About LevelsApp and Level Up Careers

South Africa has 26 public universities offering thousands of degrees — and no simple way to compare them. Level Up Careers has been changing that since 2015 through LevelsApp, helping learners map their future with clear direction.

What we do

LevelsApp takes every degree from every South African university and puts them into one user-friendly format so they can actually be compared. APS requirements, subject prerequisites, fees, duration, career outcomes — all in one place.

Why we exist

Too many learners choose a degree because it's the one they heard of, not the one that fits them. That's a decision that shapes a career, a family, a life. We think it deserves better tools.

Who we work with

We train life orientation teachers on LevelsApp so they can guide every learner in their classroom. We also work directly with schools and parents — and in many cases, we apply to university on behalf of the learner.

Where we're going

Every South African high school. Every learner. LevelsApp — a platform they can trust when the question is: what comes next?

Bojane Segooa, founder of Level Up Careers

LevelsApp was created by Bojane Segooa, founder of Level Up Careers, a qualified chartered accountant and senior lecturer in the Department of Financial Accounting at Unisa. She was inspired to build LevelsApp while teaching accounting pro bono to talented learners in township areas who lacked the comparative, comprehensive information they needed to make informed choices about their tertiary studies.

Today LevelsApp is an award-winning digital career guidance platform used by learners across Gauteng in partnership with schools and NGOs — presenting every degree at every South African university in a standardised, easy-to-compare format.

“Levelling up” on quality education

Bizcommunity · 11 July 2019 · Issued by SAICA

In a SAICA-issued feature on Bizcommunity, Bojane explains how LevelsApp was born from her pro-bono accounting classes with previously disadvantaged learners in Gauteng. She saw first-hand the vacuum of comparative, consolidated information students needed when transitioning from basic to higher education — and built a solution.

The article highlights Bojane’s belief that education is an opportunity enabler with a snowball effect: the more educated you are, the better decisions you make about your life. It also notes that LevelsApp is free for learners, operates as a teacher-training tool, and is funded by the CSI divisions of South African corporates — bringing full-circle support from information to application to funding.
